HOW CYBERLIBEL ORGANIZATION, INC. WAS FOUNDED
Once upon a time, in October 2006, a 22 year old girl received an email with a link to a Google Groups post on the Internet about her. That link told a false story of her being a liar, of her having a disease she did not have - the worst lies imaginable. Her real name was used in the post, her age, the name of the small, conservative town where she lived, the places she sometimes visited (like Starbucks) as well as links to the website of the business consultancy she had built and owned.
She at first was shocked at the message, but being the ambitious and highly positive individual she was, she was very sure and confident that this post could be erased. After all, it was 100% false. These were vicious lies made about her including a message that she had a disease she did not have (as proven later by 3 seperate test results). She called her parents that night and cried on the phone most of the night as the reality of what had happened set in.
Within a short couple weeks, the post had circulated to over one hundred websites as it was posted in an unmonitored usenet (posts made there repost themselves upon x amount of hits as if its news spreading).
She called all the law firms she could find, but no one was willing to help her. She was just 22 years old and could not afford the out of pocket $30,000+ estimate of a lawsuit the lawyers quoted (with no promise whatsoever of a victory in the end).
2 years went by. She tried her hardest to find her attacker, but the IP traces ended nowhere. Not even the local Sheriffs department was able to get a trace. The beginnings of the traces found were overseas and that made it even more difficult. 2 years later at the end of October 2009, she finally filed a federal lawsuit all on her own to try to get the court to issue a cease and decist order to stop the website from publishing the defamation. Her lawsuit was dismissed as Google Groups and the other website were immune from lawsuits because they were not the actual publishers (only the software).
Her own name, the name of her family and the name of her company were broken and shattered. She lost the people who she thought were her friends. She struggled with many parts of her life; making money, trusting people and having any sense of hope of a normal future.
I am the Founder of Cyberlibel Organization, Inc. I am Anna Kubit and that girl you just read about; that girl is me.
As I was just about to go invisible (change my name, leave zero paper trails, move, change everything about me) so that I would no longer be judged for something I did not have and things I did not do, my business coach inspired me to be the public face and momentum of cyberlibel so that no one ever has to go thru what I went thru.
Here I am. My goal is to be the catalyst for a much needed change. Can you help me?
